Description

Chesapeake Youth Symphony Orchestra features three youth orchestras: symphony, repertory and strings. Ultimately, the work of rehearsals prepares the CYSO members for public performances. Concerts give the young musicians the opportunity to demonstrate their achievements and to bring their love for music to people of all ages in the community. Several full concert performances are given each year at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts in Annapolis, and Kinderkonzerts are presented for the youngest audiences. A biennial piano concerto competition, held in cooperation with the Anne Arundel County Music Teachers Association, brings the orchestra and talented young pianists together. On alternate years, a CYSO soloist is featured. Service to the community is also provided through free concerts at retirement centers, the Waterfront Festival, the State House, and at cultural arts events in the area. The chamber ensembles perform extensively in the community as a service to requesting organizations.

Services Provided

The CYSO is by no means all work and no play! Retreats allow members to enjoy each other's company in a relaxed atmosphere. "Run-out" concerts and field trips provide for group day-trips, and exchange programs have linked the orchestra with young musicians from around the U.S. and the world. Periodically, the CYSO enjoys foreign tours, such as the recent summer visit to the Czech and Slovak Republics.
