A note about your child messing with food

A note about your child messing with food

Young children are often messy with food. They like to eat with their fingers and dip food into liquids. They are experimenting with the different feelings and textures and combinations. This may continue when they are bored or because their parent reacts in a way that is exciting. Some adults may be setting an example by eating with their hands. The best thing is for you to be prepared so you don't get upset. To help prevent messes, give your child a little food at a time. If your child starts throwing food, mealtime should be over. Put your child down, put any remaining food in the frig and remove your child's chair. Do not give the food back for one hour. Children quickly learn not to mess with their food.
