What is the best educational setting for children with Tourette's Syndrome (TS)?

Many kids with TS function well in a regular classroom. However some TS kids also have ADHD, learning disabilities or obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Along with frequent tics, these problems can interfere with doing well in school and getting along with peers. All TS kids need a comprehensive assessment. This allows students to be placed in a school setting that meets their individual needs. Students may require tutoring, smaller classes, and in some cases special schools.

All students with TS need a tolerant and compassionate setting. It should encourage them to work to their full potential and be flexible enough to meet their special needs. Sometimes TS symptoms make writing tricky. Therefore, things like a private study area or oral exams can be helpful. Untimed testing also reduces stress for students with TS.
