Having a Conversation

Two-year-olds are working hard on their language skills. They are also learning to have conversations. Two year olds can understand commands and sentences. They may be able to speak in simple sentences that are now easier for adults to understand. They can take turns in a conversation. They can also pay attention to the same subject as the adult in a conversation. This is called joint attention and is an important part of social language. You may also discover that your child uses language to expand on her play. She may talk about pretending to go to the store and name all of the groceries she wants to buy.
