Reading for Meaning

Resource Type

Video - Parent

Description

Kids can be taught how to take what they read and make it their own. Hosted by Frank McCourt, this program shows how getting a book "inside your head," understanding it, and connecting it to your life and everything else you know is the ultimate purpose of learning how to read. "Reading for Meaning" is a 30-minute program in the Launching Young Readers series that highlights effective comprehension strategies. Through interviews with experts and visits to classrooms, the program shows how parents and teachers can help children understand the words on a page. This program also features a visit with childrenís book author Walter Dean Myers, creator of Harlem.
