Writing, spelling, and reading reinforce each other. Hosted by Vivica A. Fox, this program looks at the ways in which spelling helps children see the patterns in language and understand how words are put together. ìWriting and Spelling" is a 30-minute program in the Launching Young Readers series that showcases successful methods for encouraging children to write and build their vocabularies. Looking at a childís spelling opens a remarkable window into his or her mind and reveals what the child understands about word structure, speech sounds, and how letters are used to represent them. This program also features a visit with childrenís book author and illustrator William Joyce, the imaginative creator of George Shrinks.
