Techniques of Play Therapy: A Clinical Demonstration

Resource Type

Video - Parent

Description

"This program features Nancy Boyd Webb, an authority on play therapy, who describes and demonstrates effective play therapy techniques. The goals of play therapy are to help the child with the anxiety/conflicts/symptoms that precipitated the referral to the therapist and to work with the child and family to remove any obstacles that threaten to interfere with the child's future optimal development. The tape shows unrehearsed segments of an initial play therapy session with three different children and follow-up sessions with two children who were formerly seen in therapy. Scenes from an initial parent interview are also shown. In the play therapy sessions techniques for engaging and communicating therapeutically with children are demonstrated as well as strategies for working with children of various ages. A variety of play materials are used in the therapy sessions such as drawings, instruments, clay, play-doh, puppets, dolls, blocks, and card and board games." -Child Development Media, Inc.
