Description

"In interviews three Hispanic families talk about their experiences, challenges, and feelings in raising young children with developmental delay/disabilities. Two of the families have children with cerebral palsy and seizures and one has a child with Down's syndrome. They talk openly about their reactions upon hearing their child's diagnosis and about their interactions with other family members, medical staff, and the community. Each couple is interviewed and then the mothers and fathers separately discuss their concerns and satisfaction in dealing with children with special needs. The importance of family-support groups and early-intervention services is emphasized.. Each of the three families has a somewhat different experience in acceptance by spouse, other family members, and the community." -Child Development Media, Inc.
