Description

The Maryland Society for Sight has for many years promoted eye health and safety, particularly in the area of children's sports. Now the Society has formalized its efforts with the development of Eye Safety 2000. Eye Safety 2000 is being conducted by the Society's Eye Safety Committee, an arm of the Society whose mission is to protect Maryland citizens against vision threatening eye injuries. Eye Safety 2000 will direct its attention to three areas to achieve its goal of eliminating all sports related eye injuries in children by the year 2000. * Public Awareness: an educational program to inform parents and children about the importance of eye protection in sports. * Professional Education: an educational program for coaches in school sports and community recreation leagues. * Legislation: a lobby for proposed legislation mandating guidelines for eye protection in sports.
