My Child's ADHD Seems to be Getting Worse

My Child's ADHD Seems to be Getting Worse

Sometimes, a child's ADHD symptoms seem to worsen, leading parents to wonder why. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • A medication that worked before rarely stops working.
  • Work with the doctor to check that your child is getting the right dosage
  • Make sure that your child is actually getting the prescribed daily dosage at home or at school--it's easy to forget.
  • Your child may show new or worsening behaviors when he/she is under stress. Stressors may be even more challenging for children with ADHD to deal with. Common stressors may include:
    • Changing schools
    • Entering puberty
    • Moving to a new home
