Marital stress

Marital problems often can affect how children feel and act. Prolonged marital problems can cause children to act out, be depressed or have sleep problems. Sometimes parents give in to kids late bedtimes as a way to avoid their spouse. Other times kids resist going to bed because they don't want to hear their parents fighting. Many couples experience marital problems and they can often be worked out. A lot of the time work or financial stress is the cause of problems. Try to set aside time to spend with your spouse. Make one night a week "date night" for mom and dad. Try other stress busters (See Parent Work/Stress pt). If stress reduction doesn't work, seek professional help. Ask your doctor or clergy for a referral to a marriage counselor.
