Signs that your baby may be tired:

  • Yawning
  • Fussiness
  • Eyes look glazed
  • Skin is flushed or blotchy
  • Your baby does not want to make eye contact or smile
  • Your baby rubs her eyes or face with her fist

You may see one or more of these signs around the same time each day. You may see them especially in the late afternoon or early evening.

Signs that your baby is trying to soothe himself or herself may include:

  • Sucking a finger
  • Sucking a pacifier
  • Rocking himself or herself

Whenever possible, allow your baby to use these tools to put himself or herself to sleep.
