A note about alcohol or drugs

You reported you have not gotten help with using alcohol or drugs because you do not think it is affecting your child/children. It is great that you feel your child is not being negatively affected. It can be hard to see when children are affected, however, as children are often protective of their parents and make an effort to hide challenges they face. Part of the challenge for you is to determine what signs of a problem to look for. Ask yourself, how will I know if my child is being affected? If you do start to notice it is affecting your child or you want help for other reasons, please know there is help out there. Substance abuse is almost always harmful to families and children. If you are ready for help, a good place to start may be asking your doctor or your child's doctor for referrals to substance use professionals or agencies.
