Importance of Reading with a Child

Since you said you cannot remember adults reading to you when you were a child, reading to your child may not come naturally to you. Reading shows a child they are loved and teaches them to love to learn.  At first it will be a matter of hearing your voice and playing and looking at shiny pictures or simple patterns. At about six months they will want to handle the pages so cloth books are best. By about 10 months they can begin to look at pictures and touch them and can begin learning the names for things. Reading at bedtime helps with sleep. Try reading to your child every day!
