Reading with a Child

It is great that you said you had adults who read with you as a child. Reading shows a child they are loved and teaches them to love to learn.  At first it will be a matter of hearing your voice and looking at shiny pictures or simple patterns. At about six months they will want to handle the pages so cloth books are best. By about 10 months they can begin to look at pictures and touch them and can begin to learn the names for things. Reading at bedtime helps sleep. Try reading to your child today!
