Safety: The 6-Month-Old

What a time of rapid growth and discovery! A more mobile baby can be a joy to watch and can also be stressful. Babies have unique styles; each approaches this growing independence in their own way. A cautious baby may need time and support to try out new skills and explore. Another baby may dive head first into new things and may be very persistent. This is a time to help babies explore the world by creating a safe environment for learning. As part of exploring, babies may put anything they can into their mouths; everything is "up for grabs." You should now childproof your home. Pack away fragile things. Remove anything small enough to swallow. Put gates at the top and bottom of stairs. Move furniture. Your baby will take great pleasure in "taking on the world" while you stand guard!
