Book - Parent
"Despite its title, this book offers little in the way of coping skills. The text is basically a collection of scenarios that demonstrate the dilemmas various young people have faced upon learning that one of their parents is gay. These stories, which at times are credible and at other times are extremely contrived, are followed by groups of questions directed to readers. Neither potential resolutions nor answers are discussed; support groups are mentioned only in an appended list. Emotional reactions, strains, pressures, and ways to overcome personal attitudes are hardly addressed. Each example is so strongly designed to evoke sympathy toward the children of gay parents that the book may actually be more detrimental than helpful to the issue..." School Library Journal
