Cabell Huntington Hospital's Burn Intensive Care Unit is the only unit of its kind in West Virginia. The closest similar units are in Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and Columbus, Ohio. Our physicians and registered nurses have special talents and training for treating people who have suffered serious or life-threatening burns. The unit focuses on the team approach to helping burn victims and recognizing the complications that often occur as the result of a burn. Physical and occupational therapists, dietitians, respiratory therapists, pastoral counselors and social workers work together with the medical staff to help burn patients address each facet of their recovery. Controlling infections is a primary concern for burn victims. As a result, the four-bed unit is secluded from other areas of the hospital. Patients stay in private rooms where they are provided treatment and rehabilitation assistance. The unit is equipped for virtually any medical procedure or emergency.
