Program
The mission of the OGCSHCN is to reduce death, illness, and disability from genetic disorders, birth defects, chronic diseases, and injuries and to improve the quality of life for children with these problems. The programs of this office include: Case management for sickle cell disease; newborn blood spot (metabolic) screening; universal hearing screening; genetic counseling; medical day care; specialty care and regional resource development; respite care resources; nutrition management for metabolic disease; birth defects information and referral; and, assistance with eligibility and applications to other State/Local programs, including Children's Medical Services. Both the Developmental Disabilities Administration and Mental Hygiene Administration also provide children's services.
