In a questionnaire you indicated that (child's name) has trouble stopping what (he/she) is doing when asked. Some children are able to get very engaged in something interesting, like playing with electronics or enjoying doing things over and over. That kind of focusing is a good thing in itself but shifting to something more boring could be difficult. This can be challenging for parents, especially when they see it as bad behavior rather than just 'transition difficulty'. Parental anger and irritation can create a habit pattern of angry struggle. It is best for the parent to think of themselves as a cheerleader to ease the transition possibly using some recorded music or a loud ticking timer. The goal is to create a habit pattern but that takes some 5 or 6 weeks to accomplish.
