Looking and Learning
- Your baby may have greater head control at 2 months. Most babies will be
able to raise their heads about 45 degrees when lying on their stomachs. Your baby may
also be able to hold her head up for a short time when held against your shoulder. These
are signs that neck and trunk muscles are getting stronger. Try placing your baby on her
stomach on a flat surface and watch to see if she lifts her head!
- Your baby may have more coordinated head and eye movements. This makes it possible
to turn towards and explore interesting things and sounds. This is only beginning! Your baby will
continue to explore and learn.
- Try placing colorful or musical toys where your baby can see them. This
should be about 12 inches from your baby's eyes. Watch your baby focus on or track the object as you move it.
- Physicians recommend that babies sleep on their sides or backs. However, it is good
for your baby to play on her stomach some when awake and you are watching her.
- Even small babies can move around. Never leave your baby unattended near stairs,
on a changing table, or a bed.
