Time Disconnect

ADHD kids are more disconnected from time than other people. Their quick minds and constant distraction keep them from what's happening in the present. As a parent, you need to adjust to this part of your child's disposition. If your child misbehaves in the morning, a punishment later in the day won't work as well. Discipline your child as close as possible to the moment s/he acted up. Reward your child and give positive feedback at the time s/he does something well. In the long run, positive responses to the right actions work better than punishments. It can be as simple as a word or friendly touch. With too much punishment, your child may tune out or become irritable. When you give your child clear and friendly reminders, your child will see you as 'on their side'. With reminders, ADHD children are more likely to change their behavior.
