Substance Use Referral

If a loved one, like a parent, spouse or child, has a substance abuse problem, you might benefit from some extra help. Organizations like Alcoholics Anonymous have groups for teens (Alateen), adult children of substance users and women affected by other people's drinking. To find a group in your area, search "alcoholics anonymous" and your city's name on the Internet. There are many different styles of meeting. Try many different meetings so you can find the one that works best for you.

If you prefer one-on-one help, a therapist, like a psychologist or social worker can provide individual therapy. Be sure to find someone who is experienced in working with those affected by substance use.

There are also phone hotlines that can provide immediate support. Try the SAMHSA National Helpline at 1-800-662-HELP.
