One Request Then Move
When your young child appears to purposely ignore your requests:
- Wait for a break in the activity your child is doing.
- Make eye contact.
- Give a command (for example, "come here" or "pick up your crayons").
- If your child doesn't respond within 15 seconds, walk over to her and physically move her to the area you want her to be.
- Praise any components of the completed task, even if your child doesn't finish all of it.
